City rushes to help hungry migrants

The plight of over 40 migrant families in the heart of the city due to the lockdown, several social workers and BBMP officials made a beeline for their shantytown in Vasanthnagar and provided them with rations, milk and medical assistance.

The report  This shantytown in the heart of B’luru faces hunger had highlighted how the construction workers and their families, mainly from Raichur and Kalaburagi, residing in tin-shed homes on Thimmaiah Road were going rations and adequate food.

On Monday, many social organizations and individuals reached out to the suffering families, including women, children and the elderly, and provided them with rations. BBMP officials too visited the migrants’ colony and conducted medical check-ups for all the residents and attended to those who were ailing.“We distributed milk and gave them rations.

We have also made provision for the residents to receive food from Indira Canteen if required. We will regularly check on them, mainly the elderly and the kids, till the end of the lockdown ” said Pallavi KR, joint commissioner (east), BBMP
